Chris Donnelly
Takes Legion Win and SCoNE |
|
By Mark McKeon WENTWORTH, NH - All things considered, it was a pretty good weekend to be Chris Donnelly. “The Professor” graduated to the Sprint Cars of New England Triple Crown Series Championship on Sunday with a victory in the 30 lap feature at Legion Speedway, after finishing second on Saturday at Bear Ridge Speedway and fourth on Friday at Canaan Dirt Speedway. During a Sprint Car sabbatical, he also won the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature at Bear Ridge with a last lap pass after starting 15th. “We had a great run,” Donnelly stated factually after the Legion Speedway feature. “I knew Dan and Clay and those guys were just behind me in Triple Crown points and I just had to go for it. So I stood on it for all it was worth and apparently it worked. I really have to thank all the guys I race with, we all had such a great weekend.” Donnelly started fifth and took the lead from Will Hull on lap 10 of the green-to-checker event, stretching out a long lead as he worked his way through lapped traffic. Tyler Rich came from sixth to finish second while Will Hull was third. Jake Williams finished one spot off the podium in perhaps his strongest performance of the season and last year’s Triple Crown Champ Clay Dow came from ninth to finish fifth. The SCoNE overall 2012 points championship will be decided in the final remaining event of the season on September 22 at Bear Ridge Speedway. Donnelly leads Douville 578 to 564 with Dow within striking distance at 523. SCoNE Feature (30 laps) 1. Chris Donnelly, 2. Tyler Rich, 3. Will Hull, 4. Jake Williams, 5. Clay Dow, 6. Dan Douville, 7.
