Eugene
"Gene" Angelillo, 74, of 266 Kelly Road Middlebury, formerly of
Badger Road, Wolcott, passed away on Monday (March 1, 2010 at St.
Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widower of Marilyn
A. (Zukauskas) Angelillo. Gene was born in Waterbury on March 21,
1935, son of the late Domenic "Dumo" and Margaret (Nardozzi)
Angelillo. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, and a
veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean
Conflict. He was the founder and president of Sanitary Refuse
Company, Inc. of Waterbury for over 25 years retiring in 1988 when
he sold the company. He moved to Middlebury in October 2007 a month
after his beloved wife passed away. Gene had a passion for car
racing. He was the owner of the Dumo's Desire/Marilyn's Passion, #45
midget race car for 30 years. He was the most successful car owner
of the modern era in Northeast history, amassing over 112 career
victories and 15 club championships. While based in the Northeast,
he raced his car throughout the United States, winning such
prestigious events as the last midget race to be held at Pocono
International Speedway. He was the longtime President of the
Northeastern Midget Association. Gene is survived by his daughter:
Laura Kibbe, and her husband Curt of Middlebury, with whom he lived;
a sister: Rita Verrastro, and her husband Jim of Gibsonton, FL, two
granddaughters: Tiana and Brooke Kibbe, both of Middlebury; a
brother-in-law: James "Yanu" Zukauskas Jr., formerly of Torrington
and most recently of Raleigh, NC. Arrangements: Funeral will be held
Friday, 10:45 am at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral
Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Sacred Heart Church on Main Street South
in Southbury for a Mass at 12 noon. Entombment will follow at
Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum in Waterbury. Calling hours
Thursday from 1-3 pm and from 5-9 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene's name to
support the Angelillo Memorial Race Fund c/o Laura Kibbe 266 Kelly
