BRADFORD, VT - After waiting out a rain delay and turning in a
lackluster performance in his heat, Scott Holcomb of Granby, CT
sprang into action in the 25 lap USAC Dirt Midget Association
feature, starting tenth and powering by Tim Gallant of Wales, MA
with an outside pass on lap 20 to earn his second win of the year.
Six caution flags slowed the event, which was run on a heavy, very
fast track.
With all those restarts, I think I passed the same people two or
three times and I was starting to get a little annoyed, so on the
last restart I just held it to the floor and that was that, Holcomb
said. I actually preferred running the bottom because the top was
so fast that we were right on the ragged edge. We were way off in
the heat race and we made quite a few changes, so I was real happy
with the way the track came to us in the feature.
Gallant looked strong all night and finished a career-best second
while Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee, VT was third.
Scott Viets provided the Cinderella Story of the night, which marked
his return to racing after he flipped in the season opener on May 5
and suffered significant orthopedic issues. After starting eighth in
his heat and finishing second, Viets started 13th in the feature and
finished fourth, missing a podium finish by less than 10 feet when
Chaffee raced by him at the checkered flag.
